The first day of this itinerary includes free time to rest and begin acclimatizing. Taking it easy, drinking plenty of water and eating light meals can help you adjust to the altitude.

The best way to prepare for Cusco's altitude is to take your first day slowly and allow time to acclimatize. We recommend drinking plenty of water, eating light meals and starting with gentle activities, such as a short walk around the Plaza de Armas, if you feel comfortable. Coca tea is traditionally offered to visitors in Cusco. If you develop significant symptoms or feel unwell, seek medical advice rather than trying to push through them.
