Today we will visit beautiful Inca villages with their colonial houses. On this unique tour, we will appreciate the hidden treasures of this sacred land. We will begin the day by visiting the experimental agricultural terraces of Moray—concentric circular terraces up to 150 meters deep that functioned as an ancient Inca agricultural laboratory, featuring irrigation channels and microclimates with temperature variations up to 15°C. 

According to historians, these constructions constituted an important Inca agricultural laboratory. Since their terraces are built with their respective irrigation channels and each of them constitutes a microclimate. What is most striking is the great difference in average annual temperature between the top and the bottom of the depressions, a difference of up to 15°C.

Next, we will head to the colonial town of Maras, which still preserves its ancient Andean traditions and stone doorways. We will then visit the famous Salineras de Maras, salt pans that have been continuously harvested by local families since Inca times.

Afterward, we pass through Urubamba for a delicious lunch of typical Peruvian cuisine, featuring fresh salads, traditional soups, main courses, and gourmet desserts. Finally, we will explore the archaeological complex of Ollantaytambo, a living Inca town built to guard the entrance to the valley. At the end of the tour, we will drop you off at your hotel.

In the morning at the agreed time, our representative will transfer you to the train station to board the Vistadome train to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival, your guide will lead you to the bus station for a scenic 30-minute climb up 400 meters to  “The Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu” also known as “The Lost City of the Incas”.

Together with your guide, you will enter the citadel and begin a 2.5-hour tour exploring its most important temples, plazas, and sacred structures. Afterward, you will have free time to capture stunning photographs before returning to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included). You will then board the return Vistadome tourist train. Upon arrival in Ollantaytambo, our driver will be waiting to take you to your hotel in Cusco.

Discover the imperial city of Cusco. We begin at the Cathedral in the Plaza de Armas, built over the palace of Inca Wiracocha and housing over 300 paintings from the Cusco Art School. Next, we visit Qoricancha ("Temple of Gold"), the primary Inca temple once lined with solid gold and silver plates.

Leaving the city center, we explore Saqsayhuaman, renowned for its massive stone blocks weighing over 150 tons. We then visit Q'enqo, dedicated to Pacha Mama (Mother Earth), followed by the red fortress of Puka Pukara, and finally Tambomachay, the ancient water temple used for ritual purification. At the end of the afternoon, we return you to your hotel or the Plaza de Armas

According to the latest updates from the Direccion desconcentrada de Cultura de Cusco, all entrance tickets to Machu Picchu are for personal use. Therefore, tickets purchased for Machu Picchu are not reprogrammable, nor transferable to another date and/or person, nor are refundable.

The company that takes you by train to Machu Picchu does not allow you to take a suitcase of more than 5 kg. This means that most people pack a smaller backpack to spend the day in Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu, but people have doubts about where the larger luggage will stay during this time, you can leave it in the storage of the hotel in Cusco, at no extra cost.

PeruRail and IncaRail, the companies that provide train services in Peru, do not allow you to choose the seats on the trains. The distribution is done automatically by the company’s system.

We usually recommend to book the Expedition/Voyager train for the outbound trip and the Vistadome/360° panoramic train for the return trip, mainly because the outbound trip only has earlier departures, so this would mean missing the guided visit to the Ollantaytambo archaeological complex.
